There are some evenings that feel like a vacation without ever leaving Pennsylvania.

That was the magic of Festa Tra Amici—an intimate Italian-inspired dinner that transported guests straight to the Tuscan countryside through food, wine, styling, and thoughtful details. As a photographer, it was the kind of event I love documenting because there was so much more to photograph than beautiful food. Every detail worked together to create an experience.

And for one evening, we weren’t just having dinner. We were dining al fresco in a vineyard outside Florence.

An Italian Dinner Under the Lights

Festra Tra Amici was co-hosted by my dear friends Amy Nastick (AmyNastickPhotography), and Samantha Caruso, The Sprinkle Snob, serving as co-host and chef for the evening.

Sam created, cooked, and served an incredible seven-course Italian-inspired menu. From the first spritz to dessert, each course felt intentional, seasonal, and wonderfully unfussy—the kind of food that makes you want to linger around the table just a little longer.

Tuscany Table Scapes, So fresh You could Eat it

A long communal table sat beneath glowing café lights, surrounded by natural, organic details. Fresh potted herbs, garlic bulbs, apricots, and cherry tomatoes still attached to the vine were scattered throughout the tablescape. Baguettes and cheese were abundant, wine was flowing, and the entire setting had the relaxed, rustic feeling of a summer evening in Tuscany.

The event was coordinated by Jackie of Blake Events Co., who brought all of those details together into one cohesive experience.

It was beautiful without feeling overly designed—and that is exactly what made it feel so special.

A Seven-Course Italian Feast

The evening began with an Aperitivo, because what’s a proper Italian dinner without a drink and something to snack on?

Guests settled in with a welcome spritz while grazing on olives, cheeses, and spiced nuts. It was the perfect introduction to an evening designed around slowing down, enjoying good food, and spending time together.

  • Aperitivo – Welcome Spritz, Marinated Olives, Cheeses & Spiced Nuts
  • Antipasti – Crab Casino & Prosciutto Butter Breadstick
The first course brought a little more indulgence with Crab Casino paired with a prosciutto butter breadstick.
  • Insalata – Melon Carpaccio
Bright, fresh, and unexpected, the melon carpaccio was a beautiful reminder that summer ingredients don’t need much embellishment to shine.
  • Primo – Summer Lasagna
The summer lasagna was one of those dishes that felt both comforting and completely appropriate for the season—an elevated take on a familiar Italian favorite.
  • Intermezzo – Sgroppino or Lemon Soda (NA)
A refreshing pause between courses, the intermezzo gave everyone a chance to reset before the main course.
  • Secondo – Chicken Cutlet, Marinated Tomatoes & Lemony Greens
The main course brought together crispy chicken cutlet with bright marinated tomatoes and lemony greens. Fresh, rustic, and satisfying.
  • Dolci – Espresso Martini Cake & Pignoli Cookies
The espresso martini cake was rich and decadent, while pignoli cookies gave everyone one last little taste of Italy before the evening came to a close.

The Details Are What Tell the Story

As a food and hospitality photographer, these are the kinds of events that remind me why I love photographing more than just what is on the plate.

The food is important—but so are the hands preparing it, the table where guests gather, the glass of wine waiting to be poured, the linen texture, the flowers, the little imperfections, and the moments happening between courses.

For this event, some of my favorite photographs weren’t necessarily the perfectly plated dishes.

They were the details.

A cluster of garlic bulbs nestled among fresh herbs.

Cherry tomatoes still attached to the vine.

A baguette waiting to be torn apart.

Wine glasses catching the glow of the café lights.

A beautifully set table before guests arrived.

And the little moments that happen when everyone finally sits down and starts enjoying the meal.

Those photographs tell a bigger story.

They make you feel like you were there.

Creating a Destination Without Leaving Home

One of my favorite things about hospitality photography is its ability to transport people.

A photograph can make someone imagine themselves sitting at a vineyard table in Tuscany. It can make them want to book a weekend at a resort, make a reservation at a restaurant, or plan their next celebration.

That’s what Festa Tra Amici accomplished so beautifully.

The combination of food, wine, styling, florals, paper goods, rentals, and lighting created a destination all its own.

And that’s exactly what great hospitality photography should do.

It shouldn’t just show people what an experience looks like. It should make them want to experience it for themselves.

I’m grateful I got to experience this evening as both a guest and photographer.

It was a beautiful reminder that hospitality is about so much more than food. It’s about creating an atmosphere, telling a story, and giving people a reason to stay at the table a little longer.

And if you’re planning a vineyard dinner, resort experience, destination dining event, restaurant launch, or hospitality experience of your own, I’d love to help tell that story through photography.

Because the best hospitality photography doesn’t just document the experience.

It makes people want to be there.
